Boys wrestling sports feature
February 5, 2008The Boys Wrestling Team sent a shook through the school and their coach, by showing up to class with new bright hair colors. “We have nine guys so far that dyed their hair blonde. Really, it was something that we all agreed on because we’re all team players. Even though it looks kind of stupid, it’s just something we want to do for our team. It’s our commitment” said Junior Taylor Calebro. Teacher of the year and hall of famer, Coach Camarotti, also known as “The BIG Cam”, stated “It’s not my style but after a day or two I went along with it.
The team’s bold statement had a positive reaction to not only to the students but to faculty as well “{quote from faculty}”. Both sophomores Jeremy French and Renee Borshchukova agree that “It [the color] show their commitment and dedication as a team.”
The initiative was originally Calebro’s and ____senoir..?______Eddie Lopez’s idea ” its [districts] is coming right away so we wanted to do something as a team” explained Lopez .After a full season record of 10 wins and 7 loses, now the team’s main focus is districts. In order to prepare themselves, they practice Monday through Friday from 6:30-7:05 am and 2:30-5:30 p.m. Calebro reflected “we hope to go as far as we possibly can. I mean, we had a lot of setbacks throughout the whole entire year, but we got though most of them. and you know, we just keep pushing though it”

cultural blue print fair(that i never correctly posted) ooppss
February 5, 2008Last year’s theme of South American was no comparison to this year’s European, at the annual Cultural Blueprint Fair. Students were able to taste the food and art of different European countries, learn all the interesting facts and write a ‘check’ for a trip to the country. But there was more to this Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT) project then all the fancy show and tell. Students had to partnered up and create display boards, infomercials, PowerPoint presentations, and WebPages for this interdisciplinary project. Competitors had to become specialists, and build their marketing and business skills. “This year the students had a lot more knowledge then last year’s fair…..this event was a perfect opportunity to show case the academy.” says Director of AOHT Dr. Diaz.
Not only were student having fun, they were competing for the best of their sales, display, food, knowledge, and creativity. In general France was the best overall country winning third place for best presentation, and first and second place for best marketing, by Leilani Abell with Charina King and Angela Castro with Leah Braunstein.
This event was not only a competition but an exhibit as well for the academy. Other students in the school could learn about the program and become familiar with its interior. These skills they learned were only essentials for the upcoming booklet that the AHOT is set to publish in May 2008” I’m very excited about the booklet it will be a great advancement for the academy as a whole”. The booklet we be a guide for teens on becoming marketing and business professionals that can help not only the students in the academy but others in the school and those who are interested in joining.
“ The fair was a success… but I wish the displays could have been more uniformed, with a table cloths and it should have been longer lasting two periods like last year’s fair “said Dr. Diaz when asked if there was anything she would change or improve for next year’s fair. She also explains “I wish the students that came to see the fair had known the correct way to write out checks.”All the rest of Miami Beach Senior High School has to do, is wait for next year’s Cultural Blueprint fair to see.
